Fiction Discussion / Atriox Comic
« Last post by Capac Amaru on October 12, 2017, 08:45:39 AM »
I just got the two Atriox comics.

The first one is just a bunch of no name UNSC types repeating the same things over and over again until they get wiped out by suicidal waves of brutes.

The second one is a prophet and an elite, who only talk in plot exposition and self-archetype description, sending Atriox on suicide missions because he's the brute version of Jul 'Mdama.

343 apparently got the memo that bad guys with relatable motivations are more compelling, but not the memo that they shouldn't be more relatable than the 'heroes'.

In other news I've got Last Light and New Blood lying here unread...

Not with a bang, but with a whimper it seems.

Updated the news feed and the podcast page (cleaned it up significantly so it's easier to scan.)

The podcast is good, but it seems like the news needs to be updated and also the podcast page http://www.forwarduntodawn.com/fudcast/

Fiction Discussion / Halo: Fractures discussion

I wrote up my initial thoughts on Halo.Bungie.Org: http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=1214170

Overall I think this might edge out Evolutions, if only from a thematic consistency standpoint. While there are stories I think needed to be longer, and some that just feel like teasers for the tie-in novels, overall it was a great read.

I can't say I really pictured him pachycephalasaurusing another kid off the top of a 3m pyramid in the book.

Was it not a actual hill in the original version? A bit different than the junglescape.

Yeah it was a hill.

Which I guess brings up the question of what The Fall of Reach really adds, and I think that's the reason it's disappointing. It's 95% accurate to the books, but there are little niggling things throughout that aren't correct. It's covering a space in time we've already heard about, and already got a visual representation of (the comic.)

I guess the intention was to fill in who Blue Team was, but The Fall of Reach really doesn't do that any more than the original book did. It's got some character growth for Chief but his team is his team.

He seemed a lot more like he didn't want to hurt people unnecessarily in the book.

So, I finally watched this. They depicted John as a lot more blood thirsty, and power hungry, than what I got from the book.

I think his portrayal was pretty spot on (with the allowance that it's hard to get some of John's internal thoughts through a non-book medium) with the exception of the ODST fight. In this incarnation he seems much more like he wants to start shit, versus in the book where he's non-confrontational and thinks that it's a training exercise.
