They referred to this knew weapon as a shield stripper, right? Isn't the beam rifle widely considered the shield stripping halo weapon? So maybe it's simply a much needed overhaul of that. That's what I think.

It also looks like it might shoot arcs of electricity... that would strip a shield right? It probably shoots some form of beam, but you never know.

I always thought the Arc Beam in ME2 was pretty sweet. Wouldn't mind that in ma haloz.

That's the Railgun. It was announced a few months this ago. I'm curious why it wasn't in the e3 build.

Found this link on HBO;
 It seems that all of the new weapons have been found in some way.
    With the exception of the "Crossbow" most of the new weapons just look like Promethean weapons which are direct analogs from human or covy weapons, just bigger and stronger.... *Frowns at lack of creativity*

*better look at the crossbow thingy (under the character tab, find the promethean knight)

Well, unlike revising established characters *cough cough Jackal godzilla* I'm not sure what you could do to Forerunner weapons from a gameplay standpoint. We've got weapons in every combat role already; you either make them fit into similar roles, or create "gimmicky" weapons that wouldn't fit easily into play (Cerebral Bore comes to mind.)

I imagine that since the Covenant are playing much less of a role in this game, their weapons on multiplayer maps and such will be replaced or supplanted to a large degree by the Promethean weapons (especially given the ordnance system--I haven't seen anyone with a Forerunner weapon loadout, although I might have missed something, but treating them as power weapons makes me assume they'll be more like drops rather than standard equipment.)

Yeah, I was still hoping for like an Arc canon that shoots electricity or something, they could also do some kind of "flame thrower"-style weapon, where it deals damage to things withing a certain range and spread, as long as they remain in that area...

And also, yeah, i just saw the jackals! WTF 343?!?!?!?!!?

On the subject of weapons though, I do agree that there could have been more variety, but making a flamethrower-type weapon like you describe would unfortunately likely mean we wouldn't see it that often. As I understand it the flamethrower causes severe networking issues that don't exist for other types of weapons--which is one of the reasons it barely appeared in multiplayer. I imagine you *could* work around those issues if you devoted more resources to it, but then the matter comes that you've created another close-range weapon, etc...

Personally I was expecting the Forerunner weapons to be similar to the Sentinel Beams (another forgotten multiplayer weapon.)
