Can anyone explain the deal with Baldur's Gate? As in, having only heard of it but never before played it, sell me a copy :)

Its an epic, open world RPG based on 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons rules.

It is an action RPG, but you can pause to assign your party commands at any time.

The style would be familiar to anyone who has played KotOR or Neverwinter Nights.

You play as an orphan raised by scholars, until one fateful night when something comes looking for you, and its up to you to explore the world, discover wtf is going on, and try not to die in the dangerous lands of the Sword Coast.
