So is anyone else wondering why they're going with Palmer again?
Unbelievably bitchin' Lego dropships don't just build themselves.

Because 343 haven't introduced many interesting original characters into the games so far. So there's not many to choose from at this point.

Or maybe Palmer is a highly complex character and I was just too unsophisticated to appreciate the subtext present when she said 'CRIMSONCRIMSON' a thousand times. Hopefully the upcoming Palmer Saga of novels will clear that up.  And of course the exciting Palmer mini-series in which we find out why she hates science so much, and why she loves buttons. There's just so many directions they could go with that. They should just remake the entire series with Palmer as the main character, and replace Cortana with a scientist-looking AI. Together they'll go on hilarious adventures for all the family for 10 seasons of television, with each episode ending on Palmer saying something about eggheads, and everyone laughing as the screen fades to black.

I hate (love) to crush your faux dreams of having more revealed about Palmer, but from what I understand of this interview with Dan Ayoub and Kovic, the actual story of Spartan Assault is Palmer simulating "historic UNSC battles" aboard the Infinity. Wouldn't it be great if Reach was one of those simulations so we would know where 343 stands on that issue?  ;D

So does that make Halo 4's MP an actual story too?  :P

"Palmer simulating historic battles"

So she plays Halo 1-3 on easy on Infinity's holodeck?

Yeah, there's some Halsey hate, but it's in the setup, and they seem to actually be willing to go into the logistics of how we got these Spartans so soon after the war ended.

(Curious blend of visuals here: The UNSC logo, Spartans, Elites, and Frigate are all Halo 4-styled, but the Marines and Warthog are Halo 3.)

343 can't into style guides.

Well, the UNSC logo, Mjolnir MkVI, and Frigate were all strait retcons; so everything would feature those as being split.

As for the Elites; Judging from the text, the picture of the elite* is from post collaps-of-their-society. So the stripped and worn down versions of the elite armor makes sense in this context. *presumably, the picture is probably of Telcam too, given the caption.

As for the Marine's and Warthog; when the UNSC comes out with a new version of something it doesn't always automatically change everything in the universe*; its pretty plausible that many outposts and platoons of marines are going to be fighting with slightly outdated weaponry and armor for a while until the UNSC can afford to send them a resupply** (keep in mind that the UNSC is probably a little tight on funds right now; after the longest and most brutal war they've ever experienced ends with over half of their planets being reduced to rubble.)
*unless we are talking about in video games; in which case this does happen, they came up with an ok reason why the new warthog was on the old Dawn; but in the end its the same reason why the new BR's were there: cause you only see like 3 of the Dawn's warthogs the whole game and it would have been a waste of man-hours to remodel the halo 3 version just for that one part.
**In halo 4, all we see is the new versions of the marines and weapons and vehicles because the Infinity would probably have been outfitted with all the latest techz.

---Also, on a side note; the first issue came out today, I'm reading it now---
