Well, pooh, was kind of hoping it would be more Arby-focused than Infinity, but still should be interesting. One page preview at Waypoint in the bulletin: https://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2013/12/04/The-Halo-Bulletin-12413.aspx

I can't wait for the detailed account of how Jul gained control of the Promethean army in Halo 5 for the non devout lore players.

  • Being invisible, failing at sniping.
Well, Palmer fails to go a page without being stupid, but at least she's not being too stupid. At least she's not being annoying.
Yeah, hoping that this preview doesn't mean we won't be seeing a whole lot of Arby and the like.
By the way, I hear that not-Brian Reed is going to be writing this, which is a good sign.

Well, the entire plot tease they give in the bulletin is, except for the last sentence, recap of Halo 4 and Spartan Ops. We dunno if Mdama actually has any Prometheans left at his disposal or not after he chucked them into the sun. At the very least I'd expect him to only have a finite number now.

I feel like every single piece of new lore has a mandatory: Infinity get's invaded and the IV's have to fend them off.

Halo 4 campaign
Spartan ops
initiation
escalation, apparently.

seriously...

Now, now, we don't know that's actually what's going to happen...

(Although you're right that it's happened a lot. Might have to chuck it in the tropes drawer with 'ONI did it'

Spoiler Alert! Glass Hardest will end with the covenant ship Naomi's father has obtained being blasted to kingdom come with one shot from Infinity's Mega-Super Death Ray Mac Cannon. This will render the rest of the novel regarding that chase for the ship as meaningless. Naomi's father will be on board and die just after having a epiphany that he should be fighting with Humanity, not against it. Kilo Squad will never be mentioned again in Halo lore. Palmer will be awarded for her actions in stopping Naomi's father, even though she had nothing to do with it.

I accept cash and money orders for saving you the money you would have spent on the novel  8)

  • There has been much talk. And i have listened...
Yeah, I agree, the need to infuse everything in the story with the inclusion of the infinity is obnoxious.

Although I guess if the infinity is supposed to contain all of the Spartan IVs and lasky and palmer it kinda makes sense.

They have two seperate descriptions in the article, that don't really sound at all alike... So hopefully the story will follow this description moreso than the retelling of Spops route.

What part of this makes sense? Why would the Arbiter ever agree to it? It would be even worse political suicide than Infinity's 'assistance' during the battle on Sanghelios. 'Please help us humans, our puny ships are nothing compared to your mighty stolen technology!' The Infinity babysitting the Arbiter makes him look pathetic to everyone, destroying any chance of him intimidating the Brutes (intimidation being the basis of their government).

And then its parked in orbit while the elites and brutes 'negotiate' under its shadow? Wut? You know what the israeli/palestinian talks need? The USS Gerald R. Ford parked offshore. That way if the negotiations don't go the right way you can just nuke em.

Unless 'humanity turning into what the Forerunner were afraid we were before' is the point of Halo now, then I'm lost.

I'll take anything where Palmer isn't the focus.

This better not get delayed too.

I can dig it.

The mandible pieces for the elites introduced in H4 always seemed off though for some reason. They look like pincers from an insect or an aquatic scorpion and the top of his head piece looks like the shell of a Horseshoe crab. Hmm...

OMG! The arbiter is a precursor! Half Life 3 confirmed!

His armor is a sort of interesting combination of classic Arby armor, the Zealot armor from halo 4 and pieces of the Acetic set from Halo 3.

So, a quick read, and here are my thoughts:

once again, the stumbling block of Halo comics is primarily the art. Everyone seems to be dieting in the UNSC, but Palmer especially looks damn scrawny. Lasky seems to gain and lose about ten years on his face between pages, and a lot of the renderings are either stiff or rushed. A Promethean looks like Ghost Rider.

Interestingly, the Brutes are largely the same as their Halo 3 incarnations, if a little less armored, and we see "classic" Halo 3 Jackals as well, and Halo 3 styled Banshees. Grunts appear like their Halo 4 styles, and the main Brute character seems to be based on the Halo Wars hero unit. We also see some Covenant vessels we haven't seen in anything except I believe Halo Wars: Genesis.

One of the UNSC ships is called "Vociferous" as a nod to our AJ forerunners.

In terms of plot (spoilers):

* Looks like Arby turned out all right on the Elite side of things; they talk about the Elite's "fortune" so we can assume they've halted or reversed their decline from the K5 Trilogy.

* Osman is a dick. Judging by the fact that they're having a briefing on the events of Spartan Ops we can assume this is only a few weeks after the conclusion, so 2558.

* They acknowledge humanity's been a dick to the Arbiter. Progress!

Dialogue for the Spartans is in my opinion a bit more reserved and naturalistic--kinda makes me think at least from a straight writing perspective, our dear departed Schlerf > Brian Reed.

All in all a pretty decent setup.

(Side note: they say this is a continuing series, which I suppose means that this could go on indefinitely? Not sure how long this story and Schlerf's involvement is going to be in terms of issues though.)
