To me it was pretty limited in scope (basically everything revolves around H2 and the games instead of a wider universe) and the art was wildly inconsistent. "Breaking Quarantine", "Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor", and "Second Sunrise" were good, the others were rather pointless.

It was their first toe in the water. I kind of long for the days when Halo was willing to experiment with out of the box stories. Now everything is Sarah Palmer this, and Spartan IV that.

Where is my story about whats going on on the grunt homeworld? Where are the stories of the interspecies technology black market? How about some mad scientist capturing aliens for dissection?

Why has the ancient human plot just disappeared into the ether?

I don't think Halo was *ever* that experimental. Whether or not it could be is certainly a good question.

Greg Bear's Forerunner Trilogy is probably the furthest out of the box.

343 SHOULD be taking a page out of the MCU book, and using Halo to tell stories in different genres..

Aren't the Marvel movies alls superheroes? Not different genres.

I think he was referring to how they take different thematic tacks on each superhero. The First Avenger was very much a 40s movie serial throwback, Ant-Man was a heist film, etc.

Someone at /r/HaloStory suggested that Halo could do with a political thriller building on what Hunt the Truth did, for instance.

  • There has been much talk. And i have listened...
To be fair; Halo did do some experimental things; twin stick controls, xbox live, Made a whole game without their flagship character in a pseudo noir-esque setting that didn't involve the destruction of the universe. And as mentioned before. Telling a complex story in a shooter game.

also; r/halostory is a thing? Gonna go sub right now.
Signature.

They're a bit circle-jerky but there's some good comments there :)

With all the new details about Tales from Slipspace, it seems like the short story anthology Halo Fractures is what I'll be more interested in, but hopefully the comic takes advantage of the medium and shows us some cool stuff we haven't seen.
